Hen and Stag Party Catering in Spain

Hen and stag weekends in Spain usually happen in a country house, a rented apartment or a boat, with a group that arrives late, eats a big dinner and needs breakfast the next morning. Hiring a caterer removes the part nobody wants: shopping for twenty people, cooking, washing up and arguing over who does what.

This page explains what you can order, what it costs and how to get a budget without surprises. Below you will find the companies in the directory that cater these parties, listed by city, with the practical details that matter when your venue is a rural house or a moored boat.

What you actually book

Most hen and stag parties order three things, and they combine well:

  • The first night's dinner: a barbecue, rice cooked on site, a cold buffet or a plated menu, depending on the venue and the budget.
  • The bar: drinks, ice, glassware and, if you want, waiters or bartenders. Most companies quote this separately from the food.
  • Next morning's breakfast, delivered and laid out the night before so nobody has to cook.

In a country house, check what the kitchen has: fridge, oven, worktop and water. That decides whether the caterer can cook on site or has to bring everything finished and just plate it up. Also ask whether open fire or barbecue is allowed where you are staying.

The usual formats: brunch, finger food, barbecue and informal dinners

There is no fixed hen and stag party menu. The format depends on the house, the hour and how formal you want it to be. The most common options are:

  • Brunch: ideal for the morning after, with pastries, fruit, eggs and coffee.
  • Finger food / cocktail: small bites people can eat standing up.
  • Barbecue: popular in country houses with outdoor space; the caterer brings the grill or uses the house one.
  • Informal dinner: a buffet or a served menu for the first night.

For groups of 10–20, finger food and barbecue are the most common. In an apartment with no outdoor space, a cold buffet or a brunch that needs no cooking on site works better.

What it costs and what the quote covers

The price follows the format, not the occasion. These are the usual ranges in Spain:

FormatPer personFor 20 people
Cocktail / finger food€25–€50€500–€1,000
Buffet€30–€60€600–€1,200
Brunch€15–€35€300–€700
Served menu€45–€80€900–€1,600

The usual minimum order is €300–€600, so in groups under 15–20 the minimum is what decides the bill. Three things move the total: distance, the hour and the drinks, which may be charged by consumption, by the hour, or bought by you. Quotes are normally given without VAT: catering is taxed at 10% and hired equipment at 21%.

Drinks, ice and glassware: who brings what

Alcohol is the line that varies most between two quotes that look identical. There are three common arrangements:

  • The caterer supplies everything: drinks, ice, soft drinks, glassware and bar staff, all in one price.
  • The group buys the alcohol and the caterer supplies the rest: ice, mixers, soft drinks and glasses.
  • Everything is split: the food quote includes only water and maybe a welcome drink, and the rest is paid by consumption.

If you want to bring your own wine or gin, say so when asking for the quote. That way the caterer can tell you whether there is a charge for serving your own bottles and what happens with what is left over.

Logistics: country houses, apartments and boats

Where the party is held changes what the caterer can do. Before booking, think about access and services:

  • Country house: check the kitchen, van access and whether there is enough electricity for extra fridges or a grill.
  • Apartment: ask about lift access, parking for the delivery van and whether the building allows catering staff to come and go.
  • Boat or yacht: ask how food is carried aboard, whether the caterer can cook onboard or has to bring everything ready, and what time they need to leave.

Also confirm the delivery window and collection time: a caterer who arrives at 8pm and collects at midnight needs different staffing from one who sets up in the morning and leaves the next day.

How to ask for a quote without surprises

For a normal hen and stag party, ask four to eight weeks ahead; in spring and summer, earlier. When you contact a caterer, put this in writing:

  • The exact address and van access.
  • Number of guests, with allergies and diets listed once.
  • Time food is served and when everything is collected.
  • Who supplies drinks, ice and glassware.
  • Whether equipment is removed that night or the next day, and who opens the house.

That list is what stops a quote from changing once you have paid a deposit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does catering for a hen and stag party for 15–20 people cost?

For 15–20 people, a brunch comes to roughly €225–€700, a buffet €450–€1,200 and a served menu €675–€1,600. Cocktail-style finger food is €25–€50 per person, so around €375–€1,000. Most caterers also have a minimum order of €300–€600, so small groups often pay the minimum. Ask for the quote with VAT shown separately.

Can we order a brunch for the hen and stag party?

Yes. A brunch is one of the easiest formats, especially the morning after. It usually runs €15–€35 per person. In an apartment, ask for a cold brunch that needs no cooking on site; in a country house, a hot brunch works well. A simple delivered brunch can be booked 48–72 hours ahead; one with set-up and service needs one to two weeks.

Can we provide our own alcohol and let the caterer supply the rest for a hen and stag party?

Yes, many caterers allow it. The group buys the alcohol and the caterer supplies the rest: ice, soft drinks, mixers, glassware and, if you want, a bartender. This is normally quoted separately from the food, so ask for those lines split out. If you bring your own wine or spirits, check whether there is a charge for serving your own bottles.

Can the caterer set up in a country house or does everything have to be brought ready for a hen and stag party?

It depends on the house and the caterer. If there is kitchen space, water, electricity and room for the team, many companies cook on site. If not, they bring everything finished and only reheat or plate it there. Ask before booking, because it changes the menu and the price. Also check van access and whether the house has enough power for extra fridges or a grill.

How far in advance should we book catering for a hen and stag party?

For a normal hen and stag party, book four to eight weeks ahead; in spring and summer, earlier. A simple delivered brunch can be arranged 48–72 hours ahead; one with set-up and service needs one to two weeks. If your date falls on a bank holiday or a busy wedding Saturday, ask as soon as you have the house booked.

What food is recommended for a hen and stag party?

Food that can be eaten standing up or in small groups works best: finger food, skewers, mini burgers, empanadas, tortillas and a dessert table. If the group is sitting down, a buffet or a barbecue keeps it informal. For the morning after, a brunch with pastries, fruit, eggs and coffee is the most common choice.
